Last Chance

This was my last chance to stop Dimmsdale from making a huge mistake
This was my last chance to hide the truth from the towns people
This was my last chance to stop Hester from making the second biggest mistake yet
If only I had succeeded with my last chance

Just as Hester made her way up to the scaffold, I escaped from the crowd and told Dimmsdale:
"Madman, hold! What is your purpose ? Wave back that women! Cast off this child! all shall be well! Do not blacken your fame, and perish in dishonor! I can yet save you! Would you bring infamy on your sacred profession?" (398)
Dimmsdale's reaction-help Hester up onto the scaffold! That man is crazy. I can't help him anymore. He will certainly perish in shame now!

Broken Promises

Who did I run into today? Hester Prynne. She wants to tell Dimmsdale about our relationship. How could she do that? She promised she would keep my identity a secret! So what, it has been seven years since we made this promise, but still a promise is a promise. Honestly, I'm suprised she hasn't already told Dimmsdale; I know that I would have told him by then. I think that by not telling Dimmsdale once I figured out who he really was, I saved him. He could have been thrown into jail, then possibly the gallows. Clearly I did him a favor by dragging out his torture for seven long years! I asked Hester if she remember how I was nine years ago, earnest, studious, and thoughtful. Of course she remembered, but my have I changed. I've become a fiend; all of my deeds have hidden, evil, and ugly means behind them. We argued and then ended with me telling her to do what wishes and to "Let the black flower blossom as it may!" We'll see what happens. I wonder if she will even tell him?

The Mystery is Solved

Well guess who I found standing on the scaffold late last night, Arthur Dimmsdale, Pearl Prynne, and Hester Prynne. She thought I wouldn't figure out who her lover was, but I proved her wrong! I had a suspicion about the two when Dimmsdale spoke up for her at The Governor's house, and when I found the three standing on the scaffold together, I was positive that Dimmsdale was Hester's mysterious lover. I guess Hester isn't as great a secret keeper as she thought she was. Now I can't wait to get my hands on Dimmsdale's fragile little brain...

Roomate

As I grew closer to people in the community and Dimmsdale, I realized what needed to be done. I needed to earn people's trust, then slowly seep into their brains and figure out who they believe is Hester's lover. I can act like I care about Dimmsdale, which I do, but just enough to find out who he really is. If I befriend him maybe I could "take care of" him when I'm really just torturing from the inside out! Pahahaha... my plan shall work quite well.
I've already taken interest into Dimmsdale's health, and the towns people think I'm a saint for doing so. Ah if they only knew. I will tear their beloved reverend up. He will feel so guilty that he can't live with himself. I can tell that he doesn't want to prove the townspeople wrong about his "saintliness".
The towns people think it's a wonderful idea for me to room with Dimmsdale! How I love when my plans work out. They think that I will be able to get their reverend back to health, if they only knew...

Soft Spot

Today I toured Governor Bellingham's house with Arthur Dimmsdale. While we were walking through the house, little Pearl appeared. She was dressed in fine clothing and looked like a scarlet bird of some sort. When the other men discovered her name was Pearl, they chided at her, and stated she should have been named Ruby or Coral. Finally the Governor addressed Hester. Apparently there has been some debate over rather Hester should be allowed to take care of Pearl.
Hester claimed, "I can teach my little Pearl what I have learned from this!" (pg172) Psshhhh yea right, the only thing Pearl can learn from that is how to not follow the rules. Governor Bellingham then asked Pearl who made her. The girl believed she "had been plucked by her mother off the wild roses, that grew by the prison-door." (174) My oh my! After Pearl made her announcement I leaned down and whispered, "The girl can't even say who made her. Surely Hester doesn't deserve to keep her unmoral child," to the minister. The minister's entire composition changed. He grew uglier and darker than ever. Hester made some speech about how God gave her Pearl and that she is reminder of her sins... blah, blah, blah. Dimmsdale then defends Hester and that she should be able to keep Pearl. Dimmsdale's reaction show that he has a soft spot for Hester. I never mentioned this, but while Hester was on the scaffold and was asked who her lover was, Dimmsdale held his hand over his heart the whole time! I might just be getting somewhere...

Not What I Expected

Today was the day I was finally released from captivity. I had spent two years with the Indians. They took me into town to ransom me, and as we entered the town I saw her up on the scaffold. She was just as pretty as I remembered, but she was holding something, a baby. My thoughts were running a mile per second, but the one thought that stuck out was: Why is Hester holding a baby and wearing a scarlet A on her bosom? I asked around and discovered that my wife had an affair with someone (no one knew his name). How did this happen? I was gone two years and she decides to go off an have an affair with someone. Its horrible, but I should have expected it. We are several years apart. She's young, beautiful and did not deserve to be stuck with an old scholar like me. However she is still my wife and I must find out who her lover is and then DESTROY him.
